Athens & Attiki
Located on the eastern edge of central Greece, Attica is the prefecture that contains the greater Athens metropolitan area, with the Athens centre and the Athens Acropolis and Parthenon as its famous international landmarks. Most arrivals by plane are at the Athens International Eleftherios Venizelos award-winning airport. Attiki features 3 major sea ports: the port of Pireus, from where many passenger boats leave for many of the famous Greek islands, the port of Lavrio where ferries leave for the islands of Kea-Tzia, Kythnos and North Aegean destinations and the port of Rafina that serves Andros, Tinos, Karystos & Marmari in south Evia and several other Cycladic islands. Both Lavrio and Rafina are close to Eleftherios Venizelos airport. Attika’s southern shore is known as the Athens Riviera, runs a series of small coastal villages and towns along the Mediterranean coastline like Anavyssos, Lagonissi, Saronida, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza and the cosmopolitan Glyfada. On the north-eastern shores you will find the historically famous town of Marathon and next to it the impressive long sand beach of Schinias beach, featuring water sports, restaurants and clubs. In the same area there is the coastal town of Zoumberi and Neos Voutzas and a bit further up the beach resort of Porto Rafti. In the south-west of Attiki we will also find popular Loutraki, with its thermal waters, casino and nice beach.
